Back for 2016! Join us for RF Bootcamp on Wednesday, on 25 May!

In recent years, the idea has been discussed to add a new session to IMS which would provide an introduction to RF basics, targeting newcomers to the microwave world, such as new engineers fresh out of school, engineers changing their career path, and college students looking to gain practical experience. RF Boot Camp is that session!

RF Boot Camp
Wednesday, 25 May 2016
Moscone Center, Room 309

The format of the RF Boot Camp is similar to that of a workshop or short course, with multiple presenters from industry and academia presenting on a variety of topics including:

  • Network Analysis
  • Modular Instruments
  • Signal Generation and Analysis
  • RF Simulation Fundamentals
  • Impedance Matching Fundamentals
  • Introduction to Simulation-Based GaN PA Design
  • Understanding Basic RF Analog Receiver Design and Analysis.

RF Boot Camp will be a three-quarter day course and will be held on Wednesday, 25 May 2016.  To provide the best possible experience, registered attendees will have the opportunity to visit the vendor exhibit hall after the course, as well as attend that evening’s industry hosted reception.  In addition to presentations and discussions, test equipment will be on hand for demonstrations and visualization.

You know IMS2017 has a lot to offer. But how do you justify your trip?

1. Submit a paper. If your paper is accepted, your school or company is more likely to support you attending and presenting.

2. Be specific about why you are attending. How does the conference content advance your work? Review the IMS2016 program books for examples of past technical content.

3. Find out when your funding cycle begins and submit your request early. If the budget is planned at the beginning of the year, submit your request in January or February.

4. Itemize the costs you are requesting. Create an estimated budget for airfare, lodging, transportation, conference registration, etc.

5. Report back on your experience. Give a presentation or writeup to your sponsors with highlights of your attendance. What information can you bring back that they might be interested in?

Once a year MTT-S/IMS offers the single best opportunity to get the entire pulse of our industry in just one week. The conferences bring together thousands of the world's top microwave and wireless experts. In addition to the flagship IMS Conference, Microwave Week also hosts the IEEE RFIC and ARFTG conferences.  In a single event you connect with key people and learn about the technology advances you need to make informed decisions.

Benefits of attending IMS are centered around four major components: discover new innovations and emerging technologies, improve your technical knowledge, connect with your colleagues, customers and vendors face-to-face, and see what new products are on offer for you to leverage in one efficient trip!

Innovations and Emerging Technologies:
IMS2017 offers focus sessions which highlight emerging technologies that are gaining importance and may be of significant interest to the microwave and wireless community.

Technical & Knowledge:
IMS2017 offers technical sessions, interactive forums, plenary and panel sessions, workshops, short courses, application seminars, and a wide variety of other technical activities.

Networking:
Microwave Week has countless opportunities to connect with other members of our growing community. No other event in the industry offers access to as many technical experts and product representatives, or provides as good a forum to exchange ideas and meet the people who truly move our industry forward.

Exhibits:
Hundreds of exhibitors represent the state-of-the-art when it comes to materials, devices, components, design and test solutions, and services as well. Whatever you are looking to acquire, you will find the industry leaders ready and willing to answer your questions.

With all these benefits of attending, it is hard to imagine a more productive way than spending one week at IMS2017.

IMS is sponsored by the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society. It is part of "Microwave Week" in which the IEEE RFIC Symposium and ARFTG Conference are co-located at the same location.

MTT-S Logo-blue-WebHex The MTT-S is a transnational society with more than 10,500 members and 190 chapters worldwide. Our society promotes the advancement of microwave theory and its applications, including RF, microwave, millimeter-wave, and terahertz technologies.

For more than 60 years the MTT-S has worked to advance the professional standing of its members and enhance the quality of life for all people through the development and application of microwave technology. As we enter into an exciting future, our mission is to continue to understand and influence microwave technology, and to provide a forum for all microwave engineers. The MTT-S will continue to be the global focus for promotion of the RF and microwave engineering profession, by advancing and distributing knowledge and supporting professional development.

This is an all-volunteer society, driven to excellence by its leadership, with the active participation of all its world-wide members. The activities sponsored by the MTT-S include a broad spectrum of conferences, workshops, tutorials, technical committees, chapter meetings, publications and professional education programs. Our principal publications and conferences are world class, peer reviewed and recognized as top of class. Our professional venues provide a great opportunity for networking with experienced innovators, experts, and practitioners. Our volunteer programs provide for the development of critical, non-technical skills that enable you to be more effective professionally.

The MTT-S publishes peer-reviewed technical papers in the Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, the Transactions on Terahertz Science and Technology, the Microwave and Wireless Component Letters, and the Microwave Magazine. More information on how to access our papers and to write for our publications can be found at mtt.org/publications.html. Of particular interest to our IEEE Region 10 communities, we are providing a group of selected Microwave Magazine articles translated into Simplified and Traditional Chinese. They can be downloaded, free of charge, at mtt.org.
